For any math and dessert fans out there, the 14th of March is an exciting day. Internationally knows as Pi Day, mathematicians and bakers come together to create some delectable treats to celebrate this unique and very long number. While I only know the first five digits of pi, some know hundreds of digits and can just roll them of their tounges. However, what I can do is help you find your fill of pie in Singapore. I've been going around eating pies here and there, and there was one pie shop that stood out to me far above therest. And that shop is Elijah Pies. Located at 463 Crawford Lane, this pie shop is

among Singapore's hidden gems.

Elijah Pies' founder is Elijah Tan, a young man who started his pie-making journey uniquely. His girlfriend has quite the sweet tooth, and to satisfy and impress her, he created his first Nutella Pie for her. That's where the idea of Elijah Pies came from. The shop is built on the idea that dessert is meant to be shared with your loved ones. They now have over seven pie flavors, with their first savory pie launching yesterday.

Although you cannot physically go to the shop and try their pies, they do pop-ups all over the city at different events. They are currently at the Asian Civilizations Museum for the weekend, and it's where I went to try the pies. I got four different flavors, including the new savory pie. I tried the Black Truffle Mash Pie, Earl Grey Rose Pie, Wild Berry Lavender Pie, and the Yuzu Pie.

Here are my thoughts on each pie.

Black Truffle Mash Pie

When I eat a savory pie, it is usually a meat pie, so this was my first time trying something like this, and I was highly impressed. The crust was flaky and not too dense and was just the right thickness to complement the fillings. The truffle flavor in the filling was not too overwhelming, and the texture of the truffle mash on top was creamy and perfect. The hazelnut adds a gorgeous crunch to the whole pie. As suggested by the store clerk, I warmed it up and ate it and the pie practically melted in my mouth.

The story behind the pie is also super interesting. Like me, Elijah Pies' team travels the world and gets inspired in the most unlikely places. This particular pie was inspired by a black truffle soup in Lyon, France. They noted that the addition of hazelnuts to the pie was inspired by the soup as it was a surprising combination even for them and added a whole new dimension of flavor to the soup and now pie.

Earl Grey Rose Pie

This is the first time I've seen earl grey and rose paired as flavors, and I have to say I beyond amazed. The earl grey center was creamy, and the tea's flavor wasn't too strong, yet you could taste it. The rose cream on top was delightful, and the rose petals added a nice look and texture to the pie. Together the flavors created an explosion in my mouth and had me wanting one piece after the other.

Wild Berry Lavender Pie

Lavender is one of my favorite flavors for desserts, and I'm a big berry person, so seeing these two ingredients combined made me very happy inside. The berries and the yogurt had a smooth texture and the hint of lavender perfectly rounded out the flavor profile. Like the black truffle mash, the crust really elevated the pie for me because it balanced out the creaminess of the filling and added a little savory touch to the pie.

Yuzu Pie

The last pie I tried was a classic yuzu pie. It reminded me a lot of lemon bars which is one of my favorite desserts ever. The flavor of the yuzu was perfect and not too overbearing like it sometimes can get. I still prefer lemon to yuzu, but if you are a fan of that flavor, I definitely recommend this pie or even the cheesecake version they have. The meringue on top added a fluffy texture to the pie and a little bit of that burnt sugar flavor.

Overall, the pies highly impressed me and made for an incredible weekend treat. The crust was definitely a highlight because it was flaky and not very dense and had a great flavor that added something unique to each pie. My favorite of the four pies I tried was the earl grey rose pie because the flavors worked perfectly together. That being said, each of the four pies I tried was delicious, and I'm definitely going back for more, and so should you. Check out their website for details on how to order for pickup or delivery.
