Fun fact; we consume around 114,200,951 kilos of pepperoni every year. And I'm pretty sure I contribute at least 10 of those kilos just by myself. Pizza is one of my favorite foods and has always been a staple in my diet. Whether I was living in India or New Jersey, I always sought out the best pizza around me. So naturally, when I moved to Singapore for my gap year, I had to do the same.

I scoured other food blogs, Trip Advisor, and of course, asked the locals where I should go to get the best pizza in Singapore. I got many suggestions and tried pizza all over the island, but nothing quite matched my expectations. Then someone suggested Lucali BYGB, a restaurant that had opened not too long ago and was like a little piece of NYC brought to Singapore. The moment I checked out their Instagram page, I knew I had to go there.

The first I went was on a Sunday night for dinner with my parents, and the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I felt like I had been transported straight to Brooklyn. The restaurant's atmosphere and the interiors and setup all reminded me of the many pizzerias I went to while living in the New York area.

Despite all the well-executed social distancing measures, there was a lively buzz amongst the restaurant-goers. From where I was sitting, I could see every person in the restaurant. There were people in college and in the 60s and everyone in between. It truly felt like a place everyone could come and enjoy some good pizza.

This brings me to the most essential part of this blog: Lucali's pizza. I can without a doubt say that this pizza is the BEST pizza I have eaten in Singapore. The second I put that pepperoni and jalapeño pizza in my mouth, I felt like I entered the gates of heaven. And I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but honestly, this pizza could solve any of my life's problems. The crust was perfectly crisp and held up for quite a while. The sauce and the cheese complemented each other perfectly, and neither overpowered the flavor of the other. And finally, the toppings. I had been searching for good pepperoni in Singapore, and I finally found it. The pepperoni was smoky and not too greasy and worked really well with the fresh jalapeños they used.

The second time I went was for lunch, and I went prepared with a big appetite, ready to eat some pizza. This time we ordered two pizzas since there were more of us, and once again, I was amazed at how good the food was. I repeated my pepperoni and jalapeño pie, and we also got a classic cheese pie that was also phenomenal. Both times we got a bottle of wine from their incredible in-house selection and finished our meal with a delicious ice-cream sundae.

The menu may seem limited at first glance, but I promise you will find something for everyone. I will definitely be returning to try the pasta and also the calzones. You can make a reservation on their website, but they fill up quickly, so I recommend making it as soon as you have plans.

Happy eating!
